Hamilton Road Kitchen Extension, SW19, Wimbledon
The client wanted to modernise and extend their kitchen by removing internal walls between the existing kitchen, utility room, lounge, and dining room and adding an extension to create a beautiful open plan ground floor.
Many of our kitchen extensions involve work on the rest of the ground floor to update the interior of the home or just to ensure that the new space makes sense with the existing flow of the house. In this case, we also fitted a fireplace in the new lounge, removed partitions between rooms, and added new windows to the entire property. It’s often less disruptive to have extensive works done all at once if you would like to make a few changes to your home – that way, the work is all done as soon as possible rather than updating different parts of the house at different times and therefore extending the duration of the works.
All of the extension walls were constructed using London second hand stocks to ensure that it blended in with the existing walls rather than standing out as an obvious addition to the house. We also added bi-fold doors to the length of the kitchen extension to ensure that the rooms gained as much natural light as possible. A total of 5 Velux windows (3 in the side elevation and 2 in the rear elevation) let in yet more light, while underfloor heating ensured that the entire ground floor could be evenly and economically heated.
