Wakehurst Road Kitchen Extension, SW11, Wandsworth
The client wanted to extend their kitchen and add more living space to their home – after discussing their requirements and assessing the property, we recommended a side return and rear kitchen extension.
Natural light was important to the clients, so as part of the build we constructed a lightwell opening, as well as a roof lantern. We also installed Velux windows to the new kitchen roof to let in as much light as possible. The rest of the roof was covered in man-made slate to match the rest of the house and the aesthetic of the rest of the street.
The full build took around 8 weeks, including an inspection from the local authority to confirm that it met local building regulations. As part of this work, we took out the existing chimney breast and reinforced existing walls and the ceiling to ensure that the new addition did not affect the rest of the house – we work with structural engineers and RIBA accredited architects to ensure that your design suits your tastes without compromising on safety.
The new roof included a rainwater system that directed water away from the main house or drainage system – this can have a number of advantages, particularly in areas with a high rainfall each year.
